It's the End of the World as Some Fanboys Know It

Looking around at the internet right now, one might think the apocalypse is upon us. People fighting one another, contemplating suicide, crying out over betrayals, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! Thankfully (sort of), all of this is not because of a threat to the world, it's because of... a videogame.

Yeah, that's right. A videogame. But not just any videogame, Final Fantasy XIII. Previously thought to be a PS3 exclusive, it was announced at E3 that the game would also be heading to the Xbox 360. Personally, I'm ecstatic. This means I can for sure get the game (I'm a big Final Fantasy fan) without the need for an expensive PS3 with too few exclusive games I care about to warrant purchasing it. Some people see it slightly differently, however.

If you check out the PS3 board for the game at GameFAQs, you shall see some nice examples of fanboyism at its finest. Many people are upset to ridiculous proportions over this, crying how Square have "betrayed" them, that Square are selling out and only want money, that they won't buy the game now because it's not exclusive, how the game will suck now because they'll have to "dumb it down" for the 360, and countless other things.

First off, how have Square betrayed anyone or are selling out? Sony don't own them, and never have. This just means the game reaches more people, which seems basically like the opposite. As stated, I'm a Final Fantasy fan with a 360 and no PS3, so they're certainly helping me. And it's not exactly like Final Fantasy started with Sony anyway.

Secondly, no shit they want money. You'd have to be pretty damn naive to think companies wouldn't want to make good business decisions. But putting the game on 360 isn't stopping anyone from buying the exact same game on the PS3 just like they were going to anyway.

I've never understood the point of being so bloody zealous over a gaming system to react in such a way over something like this. Especially with the two current console companies that hardly even have any popular franchises of their own.

In short, this event has made me quite happy. I have an awesome game coming to a console I own, and I get entertainment in the form of fanboys. Life is good.

EDIT: Also, Sony Defense Force always deliver the laughs.
